BLOXOM, VA., November 2016, The Eastern Shore of Virginia Broadband Authority opens service to its 100′ Bloxom Tower at 26129 Shore Main Drive, Bloxom, VA 23308. This tower adds critical infrastructure to an area that has very limited options for broadband. The tower is designed to support multiple providers and is available for both Wireless ISPs as well as cellular providers. This will allow more coverage of wireless Internet as well as increase the cellular coverage on the shore.
The Authority also extended its Broadband Initiative Program (BIP) to WISP’s at this location. The BIP provides free Internet access and transport for up to 12 months to WISP’s to help establish broadband services.
Additionally, the Authority installed the Bloxom Tower as a free wireless hotspot to allow people to come to the tower and access the Internet for their broadband needs. The endeavor to proliferate broadband is not limited to building fiber but to build infrastructure to enhance the Eastern Shore’s access to broadband.
