    Welcome to the 2022 Virginia Telecommunication Initiative page

    This project was funded in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Telecommunication Initiative.

    The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) awarded $15.6 million to the Eastern Shore of Virginia as part of the 2022 Virginia Telecommunication Initiative program.The total funding amount includes match funds in the amount of $3,314,865 contributed by the two counties and the ESVBA.The grant is used to expand broadband infrastructure on the Eastern Shore of Virginia in Accomack County and Northampton County.

    The ESVBA officially completed contract signature with DHCD

    Completion deadline: May 31st, 2024

    Grant and coverage details

    • The total grant amount:$15,625,642.25
    • Special construction cost:$2,574,729 (Cost to cover one-time fees above normal service connection fees for long drops).
    • Number of serviceable units:11,091 serviceable units
    • Number of miles to be built: 269 miles

    VATI 2022 Progress Update

    • The project is 95% completed and completion for all 14 areas
    • 314 miles completed
    • 9330 homes passed
    • 1345 subscribers to the network
    • 160 long driveway homes connected through the VATI assistance program
